Following international criticism, former U.S. President Donald Trump has praised British soldiers who served in Afghanistan, calling them “among the greatest of all warriors.” His latest comments came after a conversation with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who earlier condemned Trump’s suggestion that NATO allies avoided front-line combat in Afghanistan as “insulting and frankly appalling.”
Trump had faced backlash from veterans, politicians, and families of fallen soldiers for remarks downplaying the role of allied troops in the war. In the call, Starmer emphasized the sacrifice of British and American soldiers who fought together, more than 3,500 of whom died in the conflict. The White House said Trump acknowledged their bravery and service in the Saturday discussion.
