Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has officially implemented the executive regulations for the Foreigners’ Residence Law, effective from Tuesday, December 23. The updated regulations are designed to streamline residency procedures, enhance compliance, and clarify the rights and obligations of expatriates living and working in Kuwait. The move follows earlier announcements and legal amendments aimed at modernizing the country’s residency framework.
The new provisions are expected to introduce clearer guidelines on visa issuance, renewal, cancellation, and transfer processes, as well as define conditions for sponsorship changes and family residency. By standardizing procedures, authorities aim to reduce administrative inconsistencies, combat illegal residency, and improve the efficiency of residence-related services for both individuals and businesses.
The implementation also reflects Kuwait’s ongoing efforts to regulate the expatriate population in line with national demographic and labor market policies. Enhanced digital services through the Sahel app and the Ministry’s online platforms are anticipated to facilitate smoother transactions, allowing applicants to submit documents, pay fees, and track requests electronically with greater transparency.
Expatriates and sponsors are advised to review the updated regulations and ensure compliance with the revised requirements to avoid legal complications. The Ministry has indicated that further detailed announcements and awareness campaigns will be rolled out to help the public understand the changes and adapt to the new residency system effectively.
