In a major move to curb vehicular pollution, the Commission for Air Quality Management has announced that only electric three wheelers in the L5 category will be permitted for new registrations across the Delhi NCR in a phased manner over the coming years.<\/p>
Under the implementation plan, the rule will first come into effect in Delhi from January 1, 2027.<\/p>
The policy will later be extended to high vehicle density districts including Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddh Nagar from January 1, 2028.<\/p>
Authorities said all remaining NCR districts will adopt the regulation from January 1, 2029.<\/p>
The Commission has also introduced stricter pollution control measures targeting vehicles operating without a valid Pollution Under Control Certificate.<\/p>
From October 1, 2026, fuel stations across NCR will reportedly stop supplying fuel to vehicles that do not possess valid pollution certificates.<\/p>
Officials stated that enforcement will rely heavily on Automatic Number Plate Recognition systems and other technology enabled monitoring mechanisms to identify non compliant vehicles.<\/p>
The directions have been issued under Section 12 of the Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas Act, 2021.<\/p>
Authorities explained that the objective is to reduce pollution caused by vehicles operating without proper emission compliance.<\/p>
However, exceptions may be allowed in special situations including medical emergencies, law and order duties, disaster response operations and other officially notified emergency conditions.<\/p>
Governments and local authorities across NCR have also been instructed to install and operationalise advanced monitoring systems including ANPR camera networks to strengthen enforcement.<\/p>
Meanwhile, the Commission recently revoked Stage I measures under the Graded Response Action Plan after air quality in Delhi NCR improved to the satisfactory and moderate categories.<\/p>
Officials said air quality forecasts issued by the India Meteorological Department and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology indicate stable conditions over the coming days.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
