{"id":3810,"date":"2026-05-22T11:16:21","date_gmt":"2026-05-22T11:16:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/colorsnewslive.com\/en\/?p=3810"},"modified":"2026-05-22T11:16:23","modified_gmt":"2026-05-22T11:16:23","slug":"india-and-cyprus-target-doubling-investments-within-five-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/colorsnewslive.com\/en\/2026\/05\/22\/india-and-cyprus-target-doubling-investments-within-five-years\/","title":{"rendered":"India and Cyprus target doubling investments within five years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Narendra Modi and Nikos Christodoulides have announced the elevation of bilateral relations between India and Cyprus to a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening economic, security and technological cooperation.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The announcement was made during delegation level discussions in New Delhi, where both countries also signed multiple Memorandums of Understanding across several sectors including counter terrorism cooperation, financial technology and digital infrastructure.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During a joint press conference, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the strong historical relationship between the two countries and noted that investments from Cyprus into India have nearly doubled over the past decade.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both countries have now set a new target to double bilateral investments again within the next five years.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Modi said the ongoing European Union free trade negotiations with India are expected to create major new commercial opportunities and further strengthen economic relations.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The signed agreements focus on cooperation in FinTech ecosystems, scientific research, student exchange programmes and digital infrastructure development.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">India and Cyprus also agreed to finalise a migration and mobility agreement along with a social security pact aimed at protecting the rights of professionals working across both countries.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A major highlight of the visit was the signing of an agreement establishing a specialised Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two nations also agreed to expand cooperation in cybersecurity, maritime security and intelligence sharing to address emerging transnational threats.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prime Minister Modi emphasised that the partnership is based on shared democratic values, rule of law and mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Christodoulides\u2019 visit to India also included meetings in Mumbai, where the Cypriot delegation presented investment opportunities in shipping, logistics and financial services to Indian business leaders.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The delegation included Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos and Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following official talks, President Christodoulides is scheduled to attend a state banquet hosted by Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Officials said the visit builds on the diplomatic momentum created by Modi\u2019s historic Cyprus visit in 2025, which marked the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Cyprus in more than two decades.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Narendra Modi and Nikos Christodoulides have announced the elevation of bilateral relations between India and Cyprus to a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening economic, security and technological cooperation.
