More than 40 percent of cancer cases reported among women in Kuwait are breast cancer, Health Minister Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadi said, highlighting the country’s growing focus on early detection and specialized care.<\/p>
More than 8,000 breast cancer patients are currently receiving treatment and follow-up care across hospitals and medical centers under Kuwait’s Ministry of Health, the minister said.<\/p>
Al-Awadi made the remarks during the opening ceremony of the third Kuwait Breast Cancer Conference, organized by the Kuwait Cancer Control Center. He stressed the importance of detecting the disease at an early stage, ensuring rapid diagnosis and starting treatment without delay.<\/p>
Kuwait has strengthened its breast cancer care infrastructure over the past decade. The National Early Detection Program for Breast Diseases was launched in 2014, followed by the establishment of a Rapid Diagnosis Clinic in 2015 and a genetics laboratory in 2016.<\/p>
An oncology department was later established at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital, along with specialized teams for breast cancer surgery and reconstruction. According to the minister, patients in Kuwait also have access to modern treatment approaches based on the characteristics of the disease and the patient’s health condition.<\/p>
These include hormone therapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy and antibody-based treatments.<\/p>
The Kuwait Cancer Control Center has also introduced liquid biopsy technology, which can support molecular-level analysis of tumors and provide additional information for cancer diagnosis and monitoring.<\/p>
The Ministry of Health is planning a clinical study on breast cancer in 2026. It also plans to establish a specialized department to monitor cancer incidence and registration, supporting more systematic tracking of cancer cases in the country.<\/p>
Meanwhile, preparations are underway to open a new Kuwait Cancer Control Center in the Sabah Medical Area. The new facility is expected to expand access to specialized cancer services, speed up procedures and improve coordination between different medical departments.<\/p>
The Ministry of Health said the expansion forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cancer care services and provide patients with more integrated diagnosis, treatment and follow-up support.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
