Kuwait’s General Customs Administration, in cooperation with the Criminal Security Sector of the Ministry of Interior, has foiled an attempt to smuggle approximately 53,314 cartons of cigarettes through the Al-Salmi border crossing.<\/p>
Authorities stated that the cigarette shipment was concealed inside cardboard boxes and falsely declared in customs documents as aluminum plates.<\/p>
Investigations into the shipment led to the arrest of a Syrian truck driver and a Yemeni national working at a customs clearance office. Both were allegedly involved in preparing the false customs declaration linked to the shipment.<\/p>
During questioning, the truck driver reportedly identified an agricultural holding in the Al-Abdali area as the location where the seized goods had been loaded.<\/p>
A security force, working in coordination with the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources, subsequently raided the site. Three warehouses were discovered at the location containing large quantities of commercial goods without the required licenses.<\/p>
An Indian worker at the site was also arrested. According to authorities, he admitted to assisting in loading the cigarette shipment on the instructions of a Kuwaiti national.<\/p>
The Kuwaiti suspect had reportedly left the country on the day the goods were loaded. Authorities subsequently placed a security hold on him as investigations continued.<\/p>
Officials stated that coordination with relevant government agencies is ongoing to determine the source of the cigarettes and establish the legal and administrative violations associated with the shipment and the agricultural holding.<\/p>
The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed its commitment to combating smuggling and enforcing customs regulations. Authorities also stressed that legal action would be taken against individuals found to have violated customs and other applicable laws.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
