The figures, announced on Saturday, October 10, put the case fatality rate at 48.3 percent, raising concerns about the outbreak\u2019s potential impact beyond the country\u2019s borders.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jean Kaseya, director-general of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), has warned that the continuing outbreak poses a risk to neighbouring countries. In August, the United Nations raised concerns about insufficient resources to contain the outbreak, highlighting the challenges facing health authorities as they work to limit transmission and strengthen the response.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A study published in <em>Nature Medicine<\/em> identified a previously unknown strain of the Bundibugyo Ebola virus, believed to have crossed from animals to humans.
