Kuwait will launch intensive traffic campaigns targeting delivery cars and motorcycles from Sunday, October 18, with vehicles found violating traffic regulations liable to be impounded for at least 60 days. Colonel Fahd Al-Essa, director of the Traffic Awareness Department at the General Directorate of Traffic, announced the measures during an interview on the radio\u2019s Second Programme, saying the campaign aims to improve road safety and curb dangerous driving.<\/p>
The enforcement drive will also target delivery companies that fail to cooperate with traffic authorities in educating employees and reducing violations. Al-Essa said officials had met with delivery company owners and shown footage of dangerous practices, including changing lanes without signalling, running red lights, overtaking vehicles stopped at traffic signals, and riding on pavements and pedestrian bridges. Companies were urged to organise safety awareness sessions for drivers, monitor their conduct and ensure compliance with traffic regulations. Delivery motorcycle riders were also reminded to avoid designated prohibited routes.<\/p>
Technology will support the campaign, with around 370 advanced cameras monitored through the central control room to track traffic conditions and record violations. Al-Essa said the system complements roadside inspections by helping authorities identify drivers whose actions obstruct traffic or endanger other road users. Traffic signal timings are also assessed according to vehicle volumes and traffic density at intersections.
