Two foreign nationals were killed and two others, including an Indian citizen, were injured after debris from an intercepted drone fell near Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah oilfield in eastern Saudi Arabia, according to the kingdom’s Energy Ministry.

The two people killed were citizens of the Philippines and Nepal, while the injured were Pakistani and Indian nationals. Saudi air defenses intercepted the drone as it attempted to target a facility at the oilfield on Wednesday, October 21. Debris from the interception sparked a fire in a contractor’s vehicle outside the facility’s perimeter. The ministry said the incident did not disrupt oilfield operations.

In a separate incident, an attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam killed one person and injured eight others, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation said. Authorities were assessing the material damage caused by the attack. The nature of the airport attack and those responsible had not been officially confirmed in the initial reports.

Saudi authorities also reported intercepting drones over the kingdom, including in the Madinah region and Eastern Province. The developments came amid escalating hostilities involving Yemen’s Houthi movement and the Saudi-led coalition. Although Saudi officials have linked the wider security threat to Houthi activity, the specific drone intercepted over Shaybah was not publicly attributed to a particular group in the Energy Ministry’s statement.

The United States has ordered non-emergency government employees and their family members to leave Saudi Arabia amid growing security concerns. The US State Department said the decision followed increased Houthi hostilities against the kingdom, including attacks on civilian airports and critical infrastructure.

The latest incidents have raised concerns about the security of Saudi Arabia’s energy infrastructure and civilian facilities as regional tensions continue. The Indian national injured in the Shaybah incident was reported to be receiving attention, with the Indian Embassy in Riyadh in contact with Saudi authorities to obtain further information and provide assistance.
