The Al-Ujairi Scientific Center has announced the celestial events, offering astronomy enthusiasts several opportunities to observe the night sky.

The month’s astronomical activities will begin on November 9 with the new moon marking the start of the Jumada Al-Thani lunar month. The lunar crescent is expected to form at 10:03 am Kuwait time as the Moon aligns with the Sun.

On November 15, Jupiter and Mars will appear close to each other in the night sky. The conjunction will occur as Jupiter passes approximately 1 degree and 14 arcminutes south of Mars. Observers in Kuwait City will be able to spot the planetary pairing from 11:29 pm above the southeastern horizon.

The Leonid meteor shower is another major event expected on November 17 and 18. The annual phenomenon occurs when Earth passes through debris left by a comet or asteroid, causing small particles to burn up in the atmosphere and create bright streaks of light across the sky.

Mercury will reach its greatest western elongation on November 20, appearing at its maximum angular distance from the Sun. This positioning will provide a favourable opportunity to observe the planet in the early morning sky.

The Beaver Moon, November’s full moon, is expected on November 24 in the constellation Taurus. The traditional name comes from Native American seasonal traditions and refers to the period when beavers prepare their dams for winter.

The final event will take place on November 27, when Venus reaches its greatest brightness during its morning appearance. With an apparent magnitude of -4.7, the planet will rise around 39 degrees above the horizon in Kuwait City at sunrise, making it one of the most noticeable objects in the morning sky.

These six events will provide opportunities to observe different celestial phenomena, including planetary movements, meteor activity and lunar changes throughout November.

Kuwait is expected to witness six major astronomical events throughout November, featuring a meteor shower, planetary conjunctions, lunar phases and the appearance of Venus at its brightest.
