The Administrative Court has dismissed lawsuits filed by owners of West Doha chalets against Kuwait Municipality, backing the council’s decision to clear the area for the Jahra Corniche waterfront development. The court ruled the removal serves public interest, which overrides private interests, and affirmed the state’s right to revoke licenses on public land without compensation.
Municipal legal representative Fawaz Al-Kandari argued that the chalet licenses explicitly allowed termination for public benefit. The court noted that such annual licenses are subject to administrative decisions in the public interest and do not entitle holders to compensation upon cancellation, validating the Municipality’s authority to proceed with the project.
