Sharjah: Sharjah Police has intensified action against unauthorized road crossing to enhance pedestrian safety and reduce accidents, especially during the busy Ramadan period.
Authorities confirmed that strict penalties are being imposed on both motorists and pedestrians who violate traffic regulations.
Penalties for Drivers
Drivers who fail to give priority to pedestrians at designated crossings will face:
Dh500 fine
6 black points on their driving licence
Penalties for Pedestrians
Pedestrians crossing roads outside designated areas will be fined:
Dh400
Major Saud Al Shaiba, Director of the Traffic Awareness Department, and Captain Humaid Al Hammadi emphasized that road safety is a shared responsibility. They noted that pedestrians remain the most vulnerable road users.
With increased traffic in residential areas, school zones and commercial centres during Ramadan, police urged everyone to exercise extra caution.
Recent statistics show that most pedestrian-related accidents in recent years occurred due to crossing at non-designated points, prompting the renewed enforcement drive.
