Kuwait City: Cybercrime and financial fraud are on the rise in Kuwait, according to the Public Prosecution’s 2025 annual report, which also highlights strong case resolution rates despite an overall increase in cases.
The report shows that a total of 49,763 cases were registered in 2025, marking a 7.6 percent increase compared to the previous year. Out of these, 48,533 cases were resolved, reflecting a high completion rate of around 97.5 percent.
A total of 50,567 rulings were issued, with 88 percent resulting in convictions, while 12 percent of defendants were acquitted.
Officials noted a clear shift in crime patterns, with traditional crimes declining and technology-related and financial crimes increasing. Cases related to technology and media crimes rose by 31.1 percent, reaching 5,323 cases. Additionally, 3,822 cases involving counterfeit currency were reported.
State security cases also saw a 15.74 percent increase. However, several traditional crimes showed a decline, including drug-related cases, which dropped to 3,066, and domestic violence cases, which fell to 2,010. Cases involving misuse of public funds decreased significantly by 67 percent.
Other reductions were recorded in document forgery cases, drug use, and juvenile offenses. Authorities also issued 3,206 detention orders, 1,003 travel bans, and 184 asset seizure orders. Financial bail collected amounted to approximately KD 1.23 million.
The Commercial Affairs Prosecution handled the highest number of cases, with 7,799 filings.
The report highlights that Kuwait is strengthening its legal and enforcement systems to address evolving crime trends, particularly in the digital and financial sectors.
