Ceasefire talks begin as tensions surge on day 38 of US–Israel Iran war

On day 38 of the conflict, efforts to secure a 45 day ceasefire are underway even as tensions continue to escalate. Donald Trump warned Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by a set deadline, cautioning that failure could result in strikes on critical infrastructure. Iran responded by stating the waterway would remain closed until compensation for war damages is addressed.

Global markets reacted immediately, with oil prices surging and Brent crude opening above $110 per barrel.

Meanwhile, Israel announced a new wave of air strikes on Iranian targets, signalling continued military escalation despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Across the region, multiple countries reported aerial threats. In the UAE, the Ministry of Defence confirmed that air defence systems are actively intercepting missiles and drones, with residents advised to remain indoors and follow official updates.

In Qatar, authorities confirmed that drones launched from Iran were intercepted and neutralised. Kuwait reported detecting numerous missiles and drones within its airspace over 24 hours, all handled according to defence protocols.

In Erbil, a drone strike hit a civilian home, resulting in two fatalities. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia confirmed intercepting seven ballistic missiles, with debris falling near energy facilities.

The situation remains volatile as diplomatic and military developments continue simultaneously across the region.
