Kuwait's Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi, has officially approved the inclusion of the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) vaccine and monoclonal antibodies into the country's optional vaccination schedule. This decision is designed to strengthen preventive healthcare and protect the most vulnerable segments of the population from severe complications associated with the virus.
The Ministry clarified that RSV is a seasonal virus common in the fall and winter, known to cause serious respiratory infections, particularly in infants and individuals with underlying health conditions. The approval is based on studies confirming that immunization is effective in controlling the virus's spread and reducing related hospitalizations. The program will offer antibodies to at-risk children up to two years old and vaccinations for vulnerable individuals across other age groups.
In a separate health initiative, the Ministry also marked World Alzheimer's Awareness Day with a public event at the Capital Mall. Organized by the Department of Elderly Health Services, the event aimed to educate the community about Alzheimer's disease, a progressive condition that involves more than memory loss and can significantly impact patients and their families through behavioral changes.
