Kuwaiti Woman Arrested for Violating Public Morals in Social Media Q&A Program

Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has announced the arrest of a citizen for publishing content that violated public morals through a question-and-answer program on social media platforms. The woman was detained after authorities monitored a video clip in which she allegedly used phrases and posed questions deemed offensive to Kuwaiti societal values and traditions. When summoned, she admitted to filming and publishing the content, leading to her formal arrest.

In a statement, the ministry explained that the case was referred to the Public Prosecution, which determined the content constituted a criminal offense under Kuwaiti law. The accused has been handed over to the Media Prosecution to face necessary legal measures. The ministry reiterated its commitment to confronting any violations that undermine societal values and applying the law firmly to maintain public order and decency.

This arrest is part of Kuwait’s ongoing efforts to regulate online content and enforce laws protecting public morals. Authorities have increasingly monitored social media platforms for material considered inconsistent with local cultural and religious norms, especially content perceived as promoting indecency or challenging traditional values.

The case highlights the legal risks associated with digital expression in Kuwait, where media and cybercrime laws strictly prohibit content deemed harmful to public morality. As digital platforms grow, such enforcement actions signal the government’s determination to control the narrative online and preserve what it defines as the ethical fabric of Kuwaiti society.
