Kuwait’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry has taken strict action against businesses accused of raising food prices unfairly in local markets.
During a surprise inspection campaign carried out on Thursday by the ministry’s emergency inspection team, 51 violations were recorded in the Ahmadi Governorate and Mubarak Al Kabeer Governorate.
Officials said most violations involved charging prices higher than the approved rates and failing to display official price lists for customers.
In Ahmadi Governorate, inspectors identified several serious irregularities including overpricing of goods, misleading promotional offers, failure to provide invoices to customers and not clearly indicating the country of origin for products.
Authorities also issued notices to two businesses for operating in violation of the conditions specified in their commercial licences.
The ministry stated that inspection campaigns will be expanded across the country in the coming days as part of efforts to protect consumer rights and prevent artificial price increases in the market.
