Strong Support Initiatives Launched for Indian Community in Kuwait

Kuwait City: The Indian Embassy in Kuwait has strengthened its efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of Indian expatriates in light of the ongoing regional situation, Ambassador Sibi George said.

Since the crisis began on February 28, the embassy has been actively working with Kuwaiti authorities to support the Indian community, which numbers around 1.05 million.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah have remained in close contact. During a phone call on March 3, the Prime Minister condemned actions affecting Kuwait’s sovereignty and stressed the importance of continued diplomatic efforts to maintain regional peace.

To assist expatriates, the embassy has launched a 24/7 helpline. With Kuwait’s airspace currently closed, special travel arrangements have been made in coordination with Jazeera Airways. From March 20, expatriates will be transported by road to Al Qaisumah Airport in Saudi Arabia, from where flights will operate to Indian cities including Kochi, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru.

In coordination with Saudi authorities, more than 1,100 visas have been issued to facilitate onward travel. The embassy is also working with Kuwait Airways to ensure the import of fresh food supplies from India.

Despite the challenges, consular services, including the repatriation of mortal remains, are continuing without interruption. The ambassador also expressed gratitude to Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its support.

The embassy has advised Indian nationals to remain calm and follow only official updates.
