Malaysia has welcomed India’s upcoming chairmanship of the BRICS Summit in 2026 and expressed support for New Delhi’s call to reform the United Nations Security Council to better reflect current global realities. The announcement came during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to Kuala Lumpur.
During talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, both sides discussed regional and global issues and stressed the importance of resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. India also reaffirmed its support for Malaysia’s role as a BRICS Partner Country and acknowledged its interest in becoming a full member of the bloc.
The leaders described their cooperation as a strategic step toward building a more balanced and representative international order, highlighting stronger bilateral ties and shared positions on global governance reforms.
