In a humanitarian gesture, the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, has granted a general amnesty to 539 prisoners under Amiri Decree No. 21 of 2026. The decision includes inmates whose sentences were reduced as well as those who were immediately released.
The move aims to give both citizens and residents an opportunity to correct past mistakes, rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society.
The Special Security Affairs and Correctional Institutions Sector coordinated with relevant government authorities to complete all legal and administrative procedures without delay. Eligible inmates were released promptly, and sentence reductions were implemented immediately.
Officials described the amnesty as a reflection of Kuwait’s commitment to humanitarian values and the effective functioning of its legal and correctional systems.
