Kuwait City: The Kuwait Fire Force has urged motorists not to leave perfume bottles, lighters, power banks, mobile chargers and other heat-sensitive items inside their vehicles during the summer, warning that extreme temperatures can lead to explosions and vehicle fires.
The advisory comes after 742 vehicle fires were reported across Kuwait between January and December 2025, prompting authorities to intensify public awareness campaigns on fire prevention.
Officials warned that lithium-ion batteries found in power banks can overheat and ignite when exposed to high temperatures. Perfume bottles and gas lighters can also become dangerous if left inside vehicles parked under direct sunlight.
The Fire Force also advised motorists to regularly inspect their vehicles for fuel leaks, damaged electrical wiring and cooling system problems, noting that engine overheating caused by low radiator coolant is another common cause of vehicle fires.
According to official statistics, Kuwait recorded 3,468 fire incidents in 2025. Ahmadi Governorate reported the highest number with 542 cases, followed by Farwaniya with 534 and Mubarak Al-Kabeer with 531.
Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Gharib urged vehicle owners to carry out regular maintenance and remove hazardous items from their cars to reduce fire risks during the peak summer season.
The Kuwait Fire Force also reminded the public that following basic safety precautions can help protect lives and property during periods of extreme heat.
