The National Centre of Meteorology has warned that March is expected to bring the highest frequency of fog across the UAE, with forecasters predicting fog on more than 20 days during the month. Authorities say the conditions could significantly reduce visibility on roads and highways.
Coastal areas, islands and internal desert regions are most likely to experience dense fog, particularly late at night and in the early morning. Visibility may drop to less than 100 metres and, in some cases, close to zero when humidity levels exceed 90% and temperatures fall overnight.
Motorists have been advised to reduce speed, maintain safe distances and avoid using hazard lights or high-beam headlights while driving in fog. Abu Dhabi Police has activated reduced speed limits of up to 80 km/h on major highways during low-visibility periods and urged drivers to follow electronic warning systems and traffic guidance.
Officials said calm, humid conditions increase the likelihood of fog, while stronger winds tend to reduce it. Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates closely and follow safety instructions as the country enters a period of frequent fog and reduced visibility.
