Kuwait’s Ministry of Information has issued strict guidelines for media organisations and journalists covering developments affecting the country and the wider region.
In a statement released on Monday, the ministry said the directives have been communicated to all media institutions and accredited reporters. Authorities stressed that news coverage during the current situation must be handled with a high level of professional responsibility.
According to the ministry, all news reports and statements must be based on official or reliable sources and must be thoroughly verified before publication. The circulation of rumours, false information or unverified reports has been strictly prohibited.
The ministry also warned media outlets not to rely on personal social media accounts as news sources unless the information has been officially confirmed.
Live reporting or broadcasting from incident locations requires prior approval from the relevant authorities and the Ministry of Information. The use of drones or aerial photography is also prohibited without official permission.
Authorities further instructed media organisations to avoid publishing content that could offend friendly nations or harm Kuwait’s foreign relations. Journalists were also reminded to respect individual privacy and not publish personal information or images without consent.
The ministry emphasised that all media activities must be conducted under valid licences issued by the authorities and in accordance with Kuwait’s media laws. Officials warned that violations of these guidelines may lead to legal action.
