The head of the Union of Consumer Cooperative Societies, Mariam Al Awad, has confirmed that food availability across Kuwait remains stable and there is no shortage of essential items in the market.
Speaking to Kuwait Radio, she said all food products are readily available in cooperative societies and supply centres across the country. No supply disruptions have been reported so far.
Al Awad noted that while supermarkets experienced higher customer traffic during the initial days, operations at cooperative stores have now returned to normal.
She urged consumers to avoid unnecessary stockpiling of food items, explaining that many products have limited shelf lives and excessive storage may lead to waste. Residents were advised to purchase only what they need.
Officials also explained that price differences for some products among cooperative societies are normal and often result from promotional discounts offered during specific periods.
The union conducts regular inspections to ensure that cooperative societies maintain accurate price lists and comply with regulations. Authorities said cases of artificial price increases are rare.
The union also works in coordination with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Social Affairs to monitor markets and prevent violations.
Al Awad reaffirmed that Kuwait’s food security remains strong and that sufficient supplies are available for both citizens and expatriates across the country.
