Sharjah Launches ‘Awn 60+’ Service to Assist Senior Citizens with Government Procedures

Sharjah has launched the “Awn 60+” initiative, a dedicated service aimed at helping residents aged 60 and above access a range of government services without visiting department offices. Introduced by the Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD), the service covers transactions such as license issuance and renewal, commercial permits, technical evaluations, and legal procedures. Beneficiaries can complete these processes digitally or request home visits by SEDD staff, ensuring accessibility for those unable to travel or navigate online platforms.

Hamad Ali Abdalla Al Mahmoud, Chairman of SEDD and a member of Sharjah’s Executive Council, stated that the initiative reflects the government’s focus on prioritizing the elderly and providing flexible, citizen-centric services. He noted that “Awn 60+” aligns with Sharjah’s broader strategy to enhance quality of life and ensure inclusive access to government resources for all community segments, especially senior citizens.

The department will conduct periodic surveys to measure user satisfaction and refine service delivery. By blending digital support with in-person assistance, the program addresses diverse needs among older adults, from tech-savvy users to those requiring hands-on help. This approach minimizes bureaucratic barriers and upholds the dignity and convenience of Sharjah’s aging population.

The launch of “Awn 60+” underscores Sharjah’s commitment to inclusive governance and community-oriented development. As the emirate continues to expand specialized services for vulnerable groups, initiatives like this reinforce its reputation as a socially responsive and elderly-friendly city, where public services are adapted to meet the evolving needs of all residents.
