Eating Too Many Eggs? Here’s How It Can Affect Your Health

Eggs are among the most nutritious foods, providing high-quality protein, vitamins A, D and B12, along with essential minerals such as selenium and zinc. Regular consumption can support muscle growth, improve satiety and contribute to a balanced diet.

However, health experts say eating too many eggs may cause digestive discomfort and other health concerns, particularly when they replace other nutritious foods.

Because eggs are rich in protein, excessive consumption without enough fibre from fruits, vegetables and whole grains may lead to bloating, gas, acidity and a feeling of heaviness after meals. Some people may also experience mild egg sensitivity or allergies, causing symptoms such as nausea, stomach pain or skin irritation.

Experts also warn that depending too heavily on eggs as a protein source may reduce dietary variety. In addition, cooking eggs with large amounts of butter, cheese or processed meats can significantly increase saturated fat intake.

According to consultant nutritionist Rupali Datta, healthy adults can generally include one egg a day, around three to four times a week, as part of a balanced diet. Children can usually consume one egg daily to support healthy growth and development.

People with high cholesterol or heart disease may need to limit egg consumption to around three eggs per week, depending on their overall health and medical advice.

Nutritionists emphasise that a healthy diet should include a variety of protein sources along with fruits, vegetables and whole grains rather than relying heavily on any single food.
