Eggs vs Paneer: Which Is Better for a High-Protein Breakfast?

Eggs and paneer are both popular high-protein breakfast options, but their nutritional profiles differ. Based on ICMR-NIN data, 100 grams of eggs provide around 13.3 grams of protein and 147 calories, while 100 grams of paneer contains approximately 18.9 grams of protein and 258 calories. Paneer therefore provides more protein by weight, but it also contains more calories and fat.

Eggs may be a more suitable choice for people who want to increase protein intake while keeping calories relatively moderate. Paneer, meanwhile, can be particularly useful for vegetarians and provides calcium along with protein. However, the type of paneer and method of preparation matter, as full-fat paneer and recipes containing extra oil or butter can significantly increase the calorie content.

Both foods can contribute to a filling breakfast. Research comparing protein- and energy-matched egg and cottage cheese snacks found similar reported levels of fullness, while another study found that an egg-based breakfast increased satisfaction and reduced energy intake at lunch compared with an equal-calorie bagel breakfast. Ultimately, the better option depends on your protein needs, calorie goals, dietary preferences and portion size.
