New Delhi: India’s leading airline IndiGo has increased its flight ticket prices. IndiGo has increased its ticket prices following the increase in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices. It has been informed that additional charges will be applicable on tickets booked from today. There will be an increase in fuel charge cess of Rs 375 to Rs 1,300 on domestic services. The official announcement says that there will be an increase in charges of Rs 11,000 to Rs 10,000 on international services.
In recent months, IndiGo has reported that ATF prices have been experiencing significant volatility due to geopolitical issues in the Middle East. With a rise of over 14% compared to the previous month, ATF costs have reached one of the highest rates in the last decade.
“As ATF costs constitute a significant portion of airlines’ operating costs, this price hike is expected to impact the cost structure and operating financial position of airlines, including IndiGo,” IndiGo said in a statement. IndiGo said that due to the continuous increase in ATF costs, it had to revise fuel prices on domestic and international routes.
The ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has been ongoing for more than seven months, has continued to weigh on the oil market. However, despite recent price increases, the current price of oil is well below the $126 per barrel seen at the beginning of the conflict.
Last September, the airline had increased the rates for various ancillary services, including travelling with infants, unaccompanied minors and extra baggage. This new increase comes after that. On domestic flights, the rate for travelling with an infant has been increased from Rs 2,200 to Rs 3,000. The rate is different on international flights. The rate for unaccompanied minors on domestic flights is Rs 5,999 and on international flights it is Rs 12,999, according to IndiGo’s website. In addition, the company charges Rs 650 for ‘fast-forward’ service and Rs 300 for travel certificate, the website states.
