A majority of American Jewish voters believe that Israel’s actions and the political activities of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) are contributing to rising antisemitism in the United States, according to a survey conducted by J Street, a US-based pro-Israel advocacy organisation.
The survey highlights differing views among American Jewish voters on AIPAC’s political campaigns, Israel’s policies in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip, and the way criticism of the Israeli government is addressed by Jewish organisations.
According to the findings, 66 per cent of respondents believe that AIPAC’s campaigns targeting political candidates who criticise Israel are contributing to increased antisemitism in the country.
The survey also found that 60 per cent believe some Jewish organisations are using concerns about antisemitism to defend unpopular Israeli government policies by portraying strong criticism of Israel as antisemitic.
Meanwhile, 80 per cent of Jewish voters surveyed believe that Israel’s actions in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip are contributing to increased antisemitism in the United States.
The findings highlight differing perspectives within the American Jewish community regarding Israeli government policies, political advocacy and the distinction between criticism of Israel and antisemitism.
