Dubai Opens Final World Trade Centre Bridge, Cuts Travel Time to One Minute

A new bridge at the World Trade Centre Roundabout will open today, October 30, as part of a major road development project aimed at easing traffic congestion in the area.

The bridge is the fifth and final structure under the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) World Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project, which involves an investment of more than AED 696 million.

With the opening of the new bridge, travel time from Al Majlis Street to Second December Street will be reduced from six minutes to just one minute. The RTA expects the project to cut average traffic delays at the junction from 12 minutes to 90 seconds.

The new bridge is one kilometre long and features two lanes, with a capacity to accommodate approximately 3,000 vehicles per hour. It is designed to improve connectivity between major roads and ensure smoother traffic movement through the busy junction.

With this opening, all five bridges under the World Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project will become operational. The bridges have a combined length of approximately five kilometres.

The World Trade Centre Roundabout is a key junction connected to Sheikh Zayed Road and several major routes, including Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street, Sheikh Rashid Street, Second December Street, Zabeel Palace Street and Al Majlis Street.

The junction serves as an important access point for motorists travelling to Dubai World Trade Centre, Downtown Dubai, Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and Deira.

The newly constructed bridges provide more direct routes for motorists, reducing the need to pass through the roundabout. This is expected to improve traffic flow on major roads and reduce waiting times at the junction.

Other major components of the project include a one-kilometre bridge connecting Sheikh Zayed Road with Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street and two bridges linking Sheikh Rashid Street with Second December Street. The remaining connections between Al Majlis Street and Second December Street complete the development.
