The U.S. military, alongside partner forces, executed major airstrikes against Islamic State (IS) targets in Syria on Saturday. U.S. Central Command stated the operation, directed by President Donald Trump, is part of “Operation Hawkeye Strike” and is in retaliation for a deadly IS attack on U.S. personnel in Syria last December.
Aircraft including F-15Es, A-10s, and Jordanian F-16s participated in the strikes. Centcom warned, “if you harm our warfighters, we will find you and kill you anywhere in the world.” This action follows prior missions in late December that killed or captured nearly 25 IS members. The strikes occur amidst continued instability in Syria following the fall of President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in late 2024.
