Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President, stated that attacks on embassies and diplomatic missions represent a serious violation of international law and highlight weaknesses in the host country’s security environment.
His remarks followed the targeting of the UAE diplomatic mission in Damascus, where a small extremist group was reportedly responsible for the incident. Gargash noted that the attack came despite the UAE being home to a large Syrian community that lives in safety and stability.
Earlier, the UAE strongly condemned the unrest, acts of vandalism, and attempts to damage its embassy building and the residence of the head of mission. Authorities described the actions as unacceptable and an affront to the nation’s symbols.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the country’s firm rejection of such acts and stressed the need to protect diplomatic missions and personnel under international agreements, particularly the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which ensures full immunity for diplomatic premises and staff.
The UAE also called on Syria to meet its responsibilities by securing the embassy, investigating the incident, and taking necessary legal action to hold those responsible accountable.
