YouTube expands Picture-in-Picture feature globally for all users

YouTube has announced the global expansion of its Picture-in-Picture (PiP) feature, allowing users worldwide to watch videos in a floating window while using other apps.

The feature, developed by Google, was previously limited to Premium subscribers outside the United States, while non-premium users could access it only within the US. With the latest rollout, non-premium users globally will now be able to use PiP for long-form, non-music content on both Android and iOS devices.

PiP enables users to minimise the app and continue watching videos in a small movable window on their screen, making multitasking easier. Premium subscribers will continue to have access to PiP for both music and non-music content.

Users can activate the feature by exiting the app while a video is playing, and the mini player will automatically appear. It can be repositioned anywhere on the screen or dismissed when not needed.

The company said the rollout will take place gradually over the coming months, expanding accessibility and enhancing user experience across devices.
