US and Iran Launch Peace Talks in Switzerland Following Initial Agreement

Bürgenstock, Switzerland: Officials from the United States and Iran have begun direct negotiations in Switzerland following the signing of an initial agreement aimed at ending recent hostilities and laying the groundwork for a broader peace settlement.

The discussions come after both sides agreed to pursue a final agreement within 60 days. Key issues on the agenda include Iran’s nuclear programme, regional security and efforts to maintain stability across the Middle East. The agreement also outlines plans for ending hostilities on multiple fronts and restoring normal maritime activity in the Strait of Hormuz.

The US delegation includes JD Vance, alongside senior officials and envoys, while Iran is represented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. Representatives from Pakistan, which has played a mediating role throughout the conflict, are also participating in the discussions.

Despite diplomatic progress, tensions remain in parts of the region. Clashes between Israel and Hezbollah have continued in Lebanon, raising concerns about the durability of recent ceasefire arrangements and the broader peace process.

Officials from both sides expressed cautious optimism ahead of the talks, with negotiators seeking concrete progress on unresolved issues while emphasizing the importance of implementing commitments already agreed upon.
