Kuwait deports 194 expats over drug-related offenses in September

Kuwait deported 194 expatriates of various nationalities during September as authorities intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking, possession and the use of narcotics and psychotropic substances across the country.

Statistics issued by the Directorate-General for Drug Control (DGDC) covering September 1 to 30 showed that authorities recorded 160 drug-related cases involving 205 suspects. In addition, 15 misdemeanor cases involving 16 accused persons were registered during the month, Al-Rai daily reported.

The month-long crackdown resulted in the seizure of large quantities of narcotics and psychotropic substances. Authorities seized approximately 725,000 Lyrica pills and 9 grams of Lyrica powder, along with 14.495 kilograms of hashish and 244.62 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.

The seizures also included 5.159 kilograms of heroin, 4.308 grams of marijuana, 6 grams of chemical drugs and 305 grams of cocaine. Two bottles of alcohol were also seized during the security operations.

According to the DGDC statistics, 141 cases involving drug smuggling, trafficking and use were recorded during September, involving 189 accused persons. The figures highlight the range of offenses being investigated as part of the country’s ongoing efforts to disrupt the supply and distribution of illicit substances.

The DGDC also handled 52 complaints related to addiction during the month, indicating that its work extends beyond enforcement operations to cases involving substance abuse.

Security operations also resulted in the seizure of several weapons. The authorities confiscated a shotgun, a Kalashnikov rifle, four pistols and an air rifle in connection with the operations.

The September figures reflect the scale of Kuwait’s continuing campaign against narcotics and psychotropic substances. Authorities are targeting individuals involved in the smuggling, trafficking, promotion, possession and use of illegal drugs while also responding to cases related to addiction.
