Kuwait has outlined regulations governing dog ownership and care, warning that violations could result in imprisonment for up to one month, a fine exceeding KD30, or either penalty.
The Government Communication Center announced the requirements as part of efforts to protect public safety and ensure responsible pet ownership.
Under the regulations, dog owners must obtain a license for their animals and attach a collar fitted with a metal plate bearing the dog’s serial number.
Owners are also required to take their dogs to a veterinary center for examination and rabies vaccination. Annual vaccinations must be maintained in accordance with the applicable requirements.
The rules further stipulate that dogs must be fitted with a muzzle and kept on a leash while being walked on roads and in public places.
Owners must notify the veterinary center if their dog contracts rabies or is suspected of being infected with the disease.
The authorities also warned the public against approaching, burying or touching animals that are infected with or suspected of having rabies.
The Government Communication Center stressed that compliance with the regulations is necessary to protect people and animals and reduce the risk of rabies transmission.
Violations are punishable by imprisonment for a period not exceeding one month, a fine of more than KD30, or one of the two penalties, according to the announcement.
