Emirates Health Services (EHS) has released a new school health guide designed to protect students from illness and prevent the spread of infectious diseases. The guide highlights six essential precautions, including frequent handwashing, avoiding touching the face with unwashed hands, covering coughs and sneezes properly, keeping distance from sick classmates, staying home when unwell, and regularly cleaning commonly touched surfaces.
In addition to preventive tips, the guide addresses chronic health concerns frequently seen in schools such as asthma, severe allergies, and type 1 diabetes. It outlines clear steps for parents, teachers, and staff to support students with these conditions—such as adhering to treatment plans, ensuring access to epinephrine auto-injectors for allergies, and maintaining emergency action plans for children with diabetes. The guide also warns against heat-related illnesses during outdoor activities, urging staff to monitor students closely and seek medical care when needed.
This initiative reflects EHS’s broader efforts to strengthen health systems across schools in the UAE. The authority currently oversees more than 300 government schools and clinics, supports Zayed Educational Complexes with nursing staff, and runs programs covering vaccinations, oral health, mental well-being, and emergency preparedness. EHS noted that Emiratization among government school nursing staff has reached 12.5 percent in 2025, further reinforcing its commitment to national healthcare development.
