Kuwait City: The United Nations Compensation Committee has awarded $ 600 million in compensation to the Kuwait National Petroleum Corporation. The move comes in the wake of the devastation caused by the Iraqi occupation.

Individuals, companies and international organizations have so far been awarded $ 51.3 billion in damages over $ 1.5 million in damages during the 1990 invasion of Iraq. A 1991 UN Security Council resolution called for Iraq to pay a percentage of its oil export earnings to the Compensation Fund. Now it is three per cent.
