DESPITE AN UPSURGE IN INFECTIONS, HEALTH SITUATION REMAINS STABLE IN KUWAIT

Kuwait City: Despite a massive increase in the number of infections, which increased from 1,482 to 2,246 in just 24 hours last week, marking the highest daily infection rate since the pandemic began in 2020, concerned authorities maintain that the health situation is stable and that the current epidemiological conditions are manageable.

Dr. Khaled Al-Saeed, the country's newly appointed health minister, has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus and is now under home quarantine. It's worth noting that the minister attended a routine cabinet meeting last week, as well as sessions of the National Assembly on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Though there has been a rise in infections, comparable to that seen in other nations where the Omicron strain of the virus has spread, the fatality rate and the number of people admitted to intensive care units are the determining factors in whether it is a virus of concern (ICU). Both of these figures remain below acceptable levels in Kuwait, which explains why health officials stay watchful while remaining unconcerned about the continued rise in infection rates.

The present increase in infection numbers is expected to last through the first week of February, after which there may be a gradual reduction, according to health specialists at the Ministry of Health (MoH). Furthermore, the symptoms of the Omicron variation appear to be far milder than those of prior variants, and authorities are not planning to impose any harsh restrictions on people's mobility, such as lockdowns or curfews, at this time.
