KUWAIT HAS RISEN 5 PLACES IN CORRUPTION INDEX

Kuwait City: Kuwait has risen five places to 73rd out of 180 countries in a global index of perceived corruption, according to the country's anti-corruption body (Nazaha), citing a Transparency International report. The yearly study, which analyses views of corruption and graft, does not provide an in-depth analysis of corruption on a national scale, instead leaving the responsibility to concerned local groups. According to the survey, corruption is rampant in many regions of the world, with 86 percent of countries failing to show even a tiny improvement in their rating.

Kuwait's national watchdog emphasised that the fight against corruption would not be slowed, and that the government would do everything possible to rid itself of the evil. Transparency International, situated in the German capital Berlin, attempts to expose corruption on a national level through its yearly report, which evaluates countries depending on how ubiquitous corruption is. Most countries have made little to no progress in reducing corruption over the last decade, and authorities' response to the COVID-19 pandemic has hampered accountability in many areas, according to a research released Tuesday.
