Kuwait City: Due to the significant increase of Covid- 19 cases this month, including those confined in hospitals and intensive care units (ICUs), the Ministry of Health has received many ideas, including the temporary suspension of non-emergency surgeries in public institutions. The interim suspension of non-emergency procedures would most likely be undertaken as a result of the reopening of several wards and ICUs for Covid patients, according to sources.

According to sources, people injured in accidents and cancer patients are exempt from the policy, implying that the suspension is intended to ensure the availability of medical and nursing staff for Corona patients without disrupting other patients' care. Covid patients in the wards grew from 22 on December 26, 2021 to 410 lately, according to sources, while those in the ICU increased from four to 86. According to sources, this has prompted concerned officials to consider suspending non-emergency operations in public hospitals, some of which have reopened Corona wards.
