REVENUE FROM RESTAURANTS, CAFES AND CATERING FALLS BY 40%

Kuwait City: According to Fahd Al-Arbash, Chairperson of the Kuwait Federation of Restaurants, Cafés, and Catering, the revenues of these facilities have recently decreased by 40%, particularly those selling 'dine-in' meals solely. Al-Arbash stated that this occurred following the Cabinet's decision to curtail the number of personnel reporting for work and the number of dine-in customers in compliance with health laws intended at limiting the spread of corona.

He said that those offering delivery services were unaffected and even profited more because they stole the market share of those just serving 'dine-in' meals. He stated that the prices of raw materials used by these enterprises jumped by 20 to 100 percent since the price of cooking oil increased by 40% compared to the price before the pandemic, while the price of butter increased by 100%, resulting in a 30% loss in profit margin. He stated that if these institutions wish to raise their rates, they must first acquire approval from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and then submit arguments for the price rise.
