KUWAIT BLACKLISTED 139 KUWAITI AND EXPAT WEBSITES IN 21 - MORALS AND PRIVACY RIGHTS WERE BREACHED

Kuwait City: In 2021, Kuwait blocked 139 websites belonging to Kuwaitis and expats for breaking public morals, fraud, or property and privacy rights. Last year, the Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority received and issued a total of 323 petitions and decisions to restrict or unblock websites, including 140 requests to block websites, according to official statistics. 


While the government prohibited 139 websites last year, it also received requests to unblock 23 domains, but only 21 were unblocked. According to the figures, from July to the end of September 2021, the authority took 58 percent of the steps related to blocking or unblocking websites. Out of the total number of websites prohibited during the year, 80 were blocked in these three months.
