Kuwait City: According to the Central Statistical Bureau's statistics on labour market information systems, there has been a surge in indices of national and expatriate employment in the private sector in the four years since the country was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, employment in the accommodation and food services sector increased dramatically, while it decreased significantly in many other important sectors, most notably construction, agriculture, forestry, fishing, retail sales, motor vehicle and motorcycle repair, water supply and sanitation, and waste management and treatment.

According to the statistics, the registered employment rate in the lodging and food services industry, which includes restaurants, cafes, and hotels, increased by 737,803 workers between 2018 and 2021, from 93,776 to 831,579 workers. The number of national workers registered in the field climbed from 1,483 in 2018 to 42,663 in 2021, while the number of expatriate workers increased from 92,293 to 788,916. The reluctance of registered workers in the construction sector was obvious, as their total in 2018 was 190,669, which decreased to 113,774 workers.
