Kuwait City: The Parliamentary Interior and Defense Committee will discuss tomorrow's draft law on foreign residency and Kuwaiti citizenship law related to Kuwaiti repatriation. The draft law puts forward a number of amendments to the Foreigners' Residence Act. In order to increase the investment potential of the country, the draft law provides for the issuance of a 15-year residence permit to expatriate investors and a 5-year residency permit to a foreign resident. Employees assigned by the Ministry of Home Affairs can inspect the documents and, if necessary, take legal action and refer them to the authorities.

Procedures in this regard will be issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Children of Kuwaiti women married to foreigners will be allowed to stay for a maximum of ten years. The visitor visa will be limited to a maximum of three months. Domestic visa holders will have their residence permit automatically revoked if they stay outside the country for more than 4 months. Those staying abroad for more than 4 months will need to obtain special permission from the Home Ministry. The draft law also stipulates that expatriate women, other than children born to foreign spouses, real estate owners and investors, will have their residence permit automatically revoked if they have been out of the country for more than 6 months.
