AFTER A THREE-YEAR PAUSE, TRAVEL AND TOURIST COMPANIES ARE GEARING UP FOR THE SUMMER SEASON

Kuwait City: According to tourism expert Kamal Kabsha, the tourism and travel business would see an increase in summer visits and reservations after three years due to the pandemic. Kabsha poured cold water on fears of an increase in airfares during the summer season due to global geopolitical changes or high oil prices, especially since companies operating in this sector are anticipating the summer season with competitive marketing plans to attract the largest segment of customers.

"It is very natural for the operational cost of flights to rise with the rise in oil prices," he said, "but many companies now rely on modern airline fleets that reduce fuel consumption rates for flights by up to 15% and thus reduce operating cost relatively, which will naturally reduce ticket price costs." According to Kabsha, air carriers are well aware that the upcoming season is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, which naturally pushes them to try to attract the largest possible segment of target customers by offering competitive prices, which will relieve the pressure of high demand on ticket prices.

This is in addition to companies offering flights with a'maximizing returns' system in force, in which plane seats are separated into price segments, the first of which is lowcost to alter with an incremental value, allowing people who wish to fly at a low cost to anticipate the next flights. It is new, especially since priority booking provides a wonderful opportunity to profit from the lowest ticket prices on flights and hotel stays.

According to Kabsha, there are three major causes driving the increased demand for travel during the next summer season, which are as follows:

- Kuwait's elimination of restrictions imposed in the face of the Covid-19 epidemic to combat viral propagation, as well as the continued worldwide strategy to eliminating restrictions, would enable people and residents to travel freely.

- The suspension of air traffic from the start of the Corona crisis until the lifting of restrictions, which forced a large segment of citizens and residents to change their previous travel plans for nearly three years, making the next season an opportunity for many to make up for what they missed, increasing demand for travel.

- Because many businesses in the travel, tourist, and air transport markets are well aware of the increased demand, they have created competitive options for travellers in order to recruit the largest possible segment and compensate for losses sustained during the Covid-19 pandemic period.
