Kuwait City: The Education, Culture, and Guidance Affairs Committee of the Kuwaiti parliament met with Kuwait University President Professor Yousef Al-Roumi and a number of senior university officials on Tuesday. MP Hamad Al- Matar, Chairman of the Committee, stated that they addressed the academic categorization of the university as well as the alteration of Law No. 76/2014. He stated that the committee had earlier requested that the interim President of the university, Dr. Bader Al- Bedaiwi, submit the report of the panel constituted by the institution to address the academic categorization issue and alter the aforementioned law. He further stated that the committee's deliberations will continue after the Eid Al-Fitr holiday. Other topics covered at Tuesday's meeting were vacancies, scholarships, dealing with student and academic staff unions, and summer courses.

Because there is no time to publish executive regulations, the summer courses this year will be performed in accordance with the current regulations, as the adoption of the new regulations has been postponed until the next academic year for further study, according to Al-Matar. Al-Matar went on to explain that he proposed forming a committee to probe the irregularities detailed in the State Audit Bureau (SAB) report, noting that the university president had pledged to do so.

In another development, MP Osama Al-Menawer forwarded queries to Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Nazaha (Integrity) Enhancement Jamal Al-Jalawi about the steps taken by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) regarding the decisions of resigned ministers on the appointment, secondment and reshuffl ing of employees.

Meanwhile, MP Khalil Al-Saleh warned the Ministry of Commerce and Industry against cancelling the decision to specify the prices of commodities during Ramadan. MP Abdulkareem Al-Kandari urged the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to continue the implementation of such a decision to regulate the prices of commodities during the holy month.
