VIOLATIONS IN KUWAITI COOPERATIVE STORES RESULTED IN PROSECUTION OF 13 MEMBERS

Kuwait City: According to reports, encroachments on the money of co-operative society shareholders are still ongoing. In addition to the administrative breaches and frauds committed by some members of the board of directors, millions of dinars in shareholder monies have been misappropriated. Intervention by appropriate government agencies and lawmakers of the National Assembly is urgently required to take decisive action in this area.


The final report of a committee appointed by the Ministry of Social Affairs to investigate the business and accounts of a co-operative organisation in the Zahara governorate has exposed the newest infractions. It was recommended that the association board members be removed and referred to the public prosecutor after reviewing the accounting entries, documents, and other audit procedures. In addition, the public prosecution has been referred 13 officials from the custodians of certain key marketplaces.
