Kuwait City: Kuwait's name is missing from the Global Competitiveness Index for the fourth year in a row, as the country was last classified in the index in 2018, when it ranked 54th globally. The International Institute for Management Development (IMD), based in Switzerland, publishes the index, which measures the competitiveness of 63 countries across four main axes – economic performance, government efficiency, the effectiveness of the business environment, and infrastructure – with the goal of analysing countries' ability to create, maintain, and develop a supportive and stimulating environment for competitiveness. For the sixth year in a row, the UAE topped the regional list, placing first in the Middle East and North Africa, despite a three-place drop to 12th overall.
