Kuwait City: The English language exam requirement for promotion has been waived for staff members of Kuwait Oil Company's (KOC) Security and Firefighting Unit. This happened as a result of the company's labour union bringing up the requirement that applicants for the aforementioned positions must be fluent in English, in addition to the training programmes they must successfully complete while on the job.

The KOC will shortly sign a KD 8.99 million contract with Petrotel, which made the lowest proposal, for the provision of technical advise in the oil and gas industry. According to sources, the corporation held three rounds of negotiations with five foreign businesses. After the third round of discussions, Target Oil Services Company, according to sources, made an offer of KD 9.3 million; the company's initial offer was KD 12.7 million. According to other sources, Halliburton and Robertson Company both reduced their offers from KD 17.2 million to KD 10.1 million and KD 9.8 million, respectively, while BEICIP-FRANLAB offered KD 9.9 million.
